Through his time in Communications-related fields, Michael has honed his skills, expanding into photography, with a passion for motorsports photography. In recent years, Michael has visited Richmond Raceway and Virginia International Raceway to take photos at NASCAR and sports car events respectively.

GT World Challenge at Virginia International Raceway

On Saturday, July 19, 2025, the GT World Challenge powered by AWS charged into Virginia International Raceway for a weekend of racing at the VA/NC line. Throughout the multiple events, teams across several sports car disciplines showcased their skills in the Virginia heat and spent time with fans during various on-track events. Mike Campbell spent time with RAFA Racing, capturing shots of the team, drivers, and crews during their visit to the Commonwealth. Images captured by Mike Campbell.

United Karting

On Saturday, June 21, 2025, karts thundered around the grounds of United Karting in Hanover, Maryland under warm and clear blue skies. Throughout the afternoon, the drivers and teams braved the warm weather to capture quick lap times around the speedy course. Images captured by Mike Campbell.

Porsche Sprint Challenge at Virginia International Raceway

On Saturday, June 16, 2024, the Porsche Sprint Challenge Series made its way to southwest Virginia and the iconic Virginia International Raceway. Among the diverse events during the race weekend, former Call of Duty pro player and world champion Ian "Crimsix" Porter was on the grid participating in the Sprint Challenge Series. He would go on to win both races at VIR en route to his first-ever professional racing series championship. Images captured by Mike Campbell.

NASCAR at Richmond International Raceway

On Friday, April 25, 2014, the NASCAR Nationwide Series (now Xfinity Series) and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series made their way to the Commonwealth of Virginia for one of its two annual stops during the 2014 season. Mike Campbell, representing Sussex-Surry Dispatch with NASCAR press credentials, attended the event and captured a variety of candid images trackside and in victory lane of the eventual race winner and likely candidate for the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Kevin Harvick. Images captured by Mike Campbell.

Michael recently shadowed NASCAR's Communications team during the Spring 2023 race weekend at Richmond Raceway, gaining insights about communications strategies, external media relations, and timely social media storytelling during a race event, among other valuable skills.

Prince George High School Graduation

Annually, Michael Campbell, as Prince George County Public Schools' Public Information Officer, attends graduation and leads photography and storytelling leading up to, during, and after Prince George High School's graduation at the division level. This focuses on producing press-ready articles, a week of social media posts, including a two-week countdown highlighting seniors. On graduation day, Michael takes thousands of photos prior to, during, and after the ceremony to be published to PGCPS' social media within hours of the final senior receiving their diploma, offering high-quality, free-of-charge images for students and families.

Over his five years at PGCPS, the associated photo galleries regularly generate hundreds of views per year and serve as a memento of the special day for PGCPS' community.

Memorial Day Tribute Ceremony: J.E.J. Moore Middle School

Having taken place for over a decade, J.E.J. Moore Middle School's annual Memorial Day Tribute Ceremony has become a time-honored tradition, embraced by the school's entire community as a way to reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedoms of Americans, including fallen service members from Prince George County and beyond.

Prince George High School Homecoming Festivities

The Prince George High School Royals celebrate homecoming every year with a fun community parade between the high school campus and N.B. Clements Junior High School, and a pep rally just before the end of the school day.
